You never know...

...where your next source of inspiration will come from. Last weekend we went to watch Teater Garasi's performance, je•ja•l•an. Wow. Talk about inspiration. From the moment we entered the theatre, I was hooked. The entire space where people normally sit to politely watch a performance, was, in fact, THE STAGE.

It was an amazing, exciting, vibrant experience. All my senses were alerted, and more importantly, all sorts of emotions were stirred. A simple - yet complex - story of life in the big city...and the mosaic of lives that form that "life". Lives within lives, woven into different shapes and forms. Unraveled by circumstance...or by intention.

Experiential theater. That's what it was. If you chose to sit in a place where props would pass through suddenly during the performance, you would get a sense of how people being evicted from their homes or places of livelihood felt. Much less violently, of course...but still a surprise.

I could almost see the thought bubbles above Dani's head as we walked around the living stage we had just entered. They matched mine. "This is how we should do our training! our facilitation!"...make it a living, but very real mosaic of experiences... to inspire, and to be inspired by everything that unfolds.

Thank you, Teater Garasi, for inspiring me...it was, a totally mind-boggling, heart-shaking experience. And for those of you who would like to read at least one review of the performance, you can check out http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2008/05/24/teater-garasi-looks-meaningful-encounters-039jejalan039.html?t=1211848687.

Thank you, Yudi...and your amazing actors. I have always loved the theater, but for many years have been separated from it. I am very happy that life has enabled me to be in touch with theater again through Teater Garasi. Looking forward to many more years of inspiration and enjoyment! Again, congratulations!
